About the venue
Maison symphonique is the concert hall at Montreal's Place des Arts associated with the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal. It also welcomes other ensembles and selected jazz and popular-music concerts, bringing different musical traditions into a purpose-built listening space. Its place within the larger arts complex makes it part of a shared cultural destination in the city. Opened in 2011, the hall's design was developed around natural sound and the isolation of outside noise and vibration, making concentrated listening a guiding idea of the building.
The room's design is closely tied to natural acoustics. Extensive beechwood surfaces and adjustable overhead elements form part of an interior created for musical clarity, while the Grand Orgue Pierre-Beique adds another voice to the hall's musical identity. Together, those features give an orchestral or ensemble programme a purpose-built home where the architecture supports the experience of listening, and the scale of the occasion remains connected to the detail of the live sound.
